As a reflection of our current needs and planned growth we are very pleased to offer an opportunity to join our team as Director of Internal Audit.

 

The primary focus of this position is delivering an all-inclusive risk-based audit plan over key financial and operational controls; deploying audit internal or external resources efficiently and effectively through a risk-assessment process; providing a beneficial service to the support entities and the operating brands they support by identifying and reporting inefficiencies and control weaknesses and recommending ways to correct them to senior management. Overall consider centralized and healthcare center operations as well as organizational structure and service relationships.  This position will be tasked with designing and implementing an internal audit function over time.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the VP, Compliance and Risk Management to prepare and implement the annual internal audit plan by performing risk assessments, developing audit activities to address identified risks and executing the plan. 
  • Establish the scope, objectives, and approach to audits using a risk-based methodology that fully assesses the areas under review. 
  • Perform and/or direct financial, operational and/or other audits in accordance with overall audit plan to achieve the objectives, timely audit results and high-quality audit deliverables. 
  • Provide support and guidance to internal audit staff in planning and executing audits.
  • Prepare written reports and oral presentations for regular reporting tailored to various stakeholders in the business. 
  • Responsible for leading the evaluation of internal controls, monitoring progress to improve weaknesses, deficiencies or inefficiencies and monitoring compliance with company policies and procedures, as appropriate.
  • Update the audit plan and shifts resources as necessary based on changes in operations or risks or based on requests from senior leadership.
  • Develop programs and audit and analytical techniques to assess revenue quality.
  • Collaborate with IT application directors on best practice and application control and IT general control enhancements.
  • Collaborate with business partners on findings and opportunities.
  • Develop SOX 404 programs and audits over the effectiveness of internal controls to help position the organization for readiness in the event necessary. 
  • Assess external financial statement audit plan strategy with Finance and co-develop long-term internal audit support and involvement plan. 
  • Analyze and makes recommendations on best approach to deploy internal or external resources, while considering budgets, organizational structure, and independence. 
  • Travel to various Aspen Dental–branded locations to conduct audits, as needed.
  • Manages internal audit staff development, training, and career planning.
  • Maintains technical proficiency with US GAAP, auditing standards, trends and best practices.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
    • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive public accounting and/or internal audit experience.
    • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
    • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels including executive leadership. This is essential to motivate teams and to work in an environment which requires flexibility and adaptability.
    • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to conduct research, gather relevant internal and external information and synthesize into a cohesive, concise presentation and/or analysis.
    • Minimum of 10-20% travel.

 

  • Preferred:
    • Advanced degree.
    • CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE certification.
    • Experience in retail and/or healthcare industries, and dental or medical insurance operations.
